Dealing with the loss of a loved one is always difficult. Below is information to assist you in reporting a death of a retiree or spouse to the appropriate parties.
To report the death of a GM retiree, surviving spouse, or family member enrolled in GM benefits plans, please call the GM Benefits & Services Center at 800-489-4646 and select the prompt “Report a Death” from the main menu. Note: Those salaried retirees receiving pension benefits via Prudential (generally those who retired prior to December 1, 2012), must also contact Prudential at 855-778-5005 or www.prudential.com/retirementgateway/gm to report a death.
FYI -- Surviving spouses and certain family members retain eligibility for GM vehicle discounts even after the death of a GM retiree. Please review the Rules and Guidelines on the GM Family First website. Visit www.GMFamilyFirst.com or call 800-235-4646, if you have any vehicle discount questions.
Lastly, access to this website is available to GM U.S. retirees and their surviving spouses. Registration is required to go beyond this landing page in order to gain access. If the person that passed away is the registered party for this site, a new registration will need to be established. For example, if the GM retiree has passed away, the survivor will need to click “register” on this page, and follow the prompts using his/her (survivor) name and email address. We want to keep in touch with our GM family so we encourage retirees and surviving spouses to set up their memberships now, while handling these difficult matters. It will help avoid missed information later.
We hope that information provided will help in getting through a difficult time. Please contact us if you need further assistance.
